Flat-pack laundries look like an easy win until you meet the fixed module sizes. Laundry rooms are rarely a neat rectangle, and in older Woy Woy or Ettalong cottages the walls are out of square, so rigid boxes leave filler gaps right where water and lint collect. We scribe our cabinets to the wall so there is no dirty gap behind the trough. The bigger issue in a wet room is specification: flat-pack ranges do not let you choose HMR moisture-resistant board throughout, sealed cut-outs or corrosion-resistant hardware, and those are exactly the details a humid, salty coastal laundry needs. The nearest IKEA is at Tempe in inner Sydney, about 83km and an hour or more each way down the M1, which is a long haul for a room's worth of flat cabinets and a longer one if a part is missing or damaged. Bunnings Kaboodle is nearer but still fixed sizes and self-assembly, with the fit risk on you.
